Monaco are well known for producing spectacular youth
talents. In the last few years, we have seen this team produce the likes of
Kylian Mbappe, Martial, James Rodriguez, Bernado Silva and many more. Their
latest contribution to the talent pool of young footballers seems to be Eliesse
Ben Seghit.
In last Wednesday's Ligue 1 match between Monaco and AJ
Auxerre, the 17-year-old youngster scored twice as he came off the bench,
including a spectacular long-range shot. The young player stole the show
against Auxerre despite the fact that he hasn't yet been listed on Monaco's
website as a member of the first team squad. At halftime, with the score tied
1-1, Monaco's gaffer Philippe Clement made three substitutions,
including the talented Ben Seghir for his first Ligue 1 start. The club's
youth academy was where the French attacking midfielder, who played with
the number 44, first began his career. Ben Seghir had a very late replacement
cameo in the Europa League in November, but this outstanding effort against
Auxerre has really given his name a world view in terms of youth talent.
He scored his first
goal only Thirteen minutes into his professional league debut, slipping
the ball past the goalkeeper after Aleksandr Golovin set him up. If his initial
attempt was impressively made, his second goal showed that Monaco seemed
to have discovered another future star. In the 85th minute, with the game tied
at 2-2, Ben Seghir caught the ball on the left, cut inside, and released a
spectacular attempt that flew past the goalkeeper and nestled right into
the bottom corner of the net. The youngster spun away in excitement with his
teammates, and you witnessed the pure joy on his face.
According to the club's website, Monaco defender Malang Sarr
commented, “I am certainly not surprised. He is a player that accepts
responsibility and is not scared to attempt new things. It's remarkable for
someone that young.”
“We are thrilled to have a young player with that
talent because he can save us from trying circumstances like this one. Since it
is his evening, I hope he has a good time. We are delighted for him.”
Following France icon Thierry Henry, Ben Seghir became the
second-youngest player to score two goals for Monaco in Ligue 1. According to
Monaco, Ben Seghir, who is 17 years and 315 days old, also passed Kylian Mbappé,
Pietro Pellegri, Henry, and Benoît Badiashile as the fifth-youngest player in
Ligue 1 to score for the team. When his team plays Brest on Sunday, Ben Seghir
will be hoping that his heroics will be sufficient enough to earn him a
starting spot in the line ups.
Have Monaco yet again produced another youth sensation for
football lovers around the world to enjoy? Will Eliesse Ben Seghir be the next
big thing in the coming years? We would all sure love to see another Project
Mbappe in the making. There's no doubt that France's future in football is in good hands thanks to another AS Monaco star.
